STOP LOOK & LISTEN (ROAD SAFETY FOR YOUR BRAIN)

  • by

Stop Look & Listen invites students to consider their “inner dialogue” – (self talk skilling from pessimism to resilient optimism). Adolescents experience a tremendous amount of thought traffic in their minds. Negative self talk is destructive of personal life, inhibits ability to achieve goals, relate to others and impedes happiness and general well-being levels.  The research shows healthy and positive self talk correlates to better study grades and happier, more successful, better adjusted people – with healthier immune systems.

Stop Look & Listen empowers students with the following learning goals and outcomes …

  • Unpacking a healthy view of self-esteem
  • Normalising the whole range of emotions (including ‘negative’ ones) so that students learn not to supress them, but instead manage them healthily
  • Helping students understand the need to, as well as skill for how to, stop negative, overwhelming thoughts through practicing mindfulness
  • Analysing reoccurring self-talk and how it affects them
  • Explaining how to negotiate thought traffic in an effective, resilient, and optimistic way

As per Personal and Social Capabilities in the Australian National Curriculum, students are invited to examine influences on and consequences of their emotional responses in a learning, social and work-related contexts; and forecast the consequences of expressing emotions inappropriately and devise measures to regulate behaviour.
