LEADERSHIP MORE THAN A METAPHOR

  • by

Leadership More than a Metaphor is a highly interactive and fun workshop designed to empower a group to articulate in metaphorical language what leadership means to them and their responsibilities to such a leadership role.  Beginning with two different impacts leaders can have, students examine past leaders as well as themselves to see which category they mostly default to. The students are then encouraged to analyse where they are personally as well as collectively in regard to their leadership understanding, beliefs and practice.  Over the course of the day, students will be challenged on their leaderships mindsets so that everyone realises they have a part to play.

Leadership more than a Metaphor equips and empowers students with the following learning goals and outcomes…

  • Developing a greater awareness of their personal and cohort-collective attitudes, beliefs and practices about leadership
  • Devising and expressing ideas in a group context, allowing for creative thinking, collaborative and teamwork opportunities
  • Exploring and understanding their role as a leader, even if it’s not a formal title

As per Personal and Social Capabilities in the Australian National Curriculum, students are invited to acknowledge the values, opinions and attitudes of different groups within society and compare to their own points of view; analyse personal and social roles and responsibilities in planning and implementing ways of contributing to their communities; and assess the extent to which individual roles and responsibilities enhance group cohesion and the achievement of group objectives.
